Zarb-i-Azb, China visit discussed as COAS calls on PM

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday to discuss matters relating to armed forces and the country's internal security situation.
Sources told Dawn that the army chief also took the prime minister into confidence over his recent visit to Beijing where he held meetings with the top Chinese political and military leadership.

The premier was also informed about the armed forces' decision to organise a joint services parade on Pakistan Day.


The joint military parade of Pakistan's armed forces will take place on March 23 and will be organised by the joint staff headquarters in Rawalpindi which oversees the country's three armed forces.

The COAS also apprised the premier about successes in the ongoing operation Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan and surrounding areas. The army chief told the premier that a number of militants have been eliminated in the operation.
Speaking to the army chief, the premier appreciated the resolve of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and said that the government and the nation fully supported the armed forces.
