ISLAMABAD: Speaking in the ‘Naya Pakistan Talat Hussain Kay Saath’ programme of Geo News, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq said the nation should give more time to the government to win against terrorism. This is not a time to level allegations. It is really a tough test of our security and intelligence institutions to destroy conspiracies against the country.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and defence analyst Imtiaz Gul were also present in the programme.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the focus of the whole nation is on eliminating terrorism, especially after the attack on the Army Public School. It is also for the first time that the political and army leadership are on the same page, he said.
The matter of Indian involvement in terrorism in Pakistan would be raised with India, he added.
Giving his analytical views Talat Hussain said the government would have to clarify why terror attacks are continuing despite utilising all possible resources. How long will lives be lost and will there always be a demand for more sacrifices? The nation has long been told that India is involved in terror incidents. Our political and military leadership both had been blaming India for disturbing the peace, and sabotage activities in Balochistan. In case there is the involvement of India in Balochistan then proof should be brought forth and a policy be framed to counter it.
Actually, the allegations are in one direction while the policy is aimed on the other. One of the two should be changed. It is also necessary that it should be clearly stated who is in charge of the operations. In case the prime minister is in charge, then details should come from the prime minister, his office or his ministers.
The information about achievements is given from one side while the other side hints at losses. The nation is confused as the mandate is given to one party in the centre while another party has the mandate in the province. The province holds the centre responsible while the centre says the province is responsible. When asked, the military says they are doing their job. Such difference of opinion is clearly visible in the daily briefings. We have become a laughing stock as we claim understanding at the top level but this division is encouraging the terrorists. There should be one in charge of operations so that there is accountability.
We are searching for Naya Pakistan since long and have rendered sacrifices for it. The efforts should be result-oriented. Just talking about it will not bring about Naya Pakistan.
The JI Ameer Sirajul Haq said there is success for all in peace. This is not the time for levelling allegations. Different ministers simply go on repeating their statements. It is a fact that India had always been conspiring against Pakistan. We should defend our country ourselves.
Countering Indian conspiracies against the country is responsibility of our security and intelligence agencies. The nation should give more time to the government to achieve success against terrorism. He said it is for the first time that all political parties gave mandate to the government against terrorism and for restoration of peace in the country. Therefore, the government should come up to the expectations of the people, who are tired of statements and promises. The nation wants results.
He said there is need for joint efforts of the centre and all provinces.
Sirajul Haq said the statement of General Pervez Musharraf is misleading. He is cheating the people. All the present problems are result of his wrong policies. India always tried to eliminate Pakistan, while every government in Pakistan tried to extend hands of friendship. He said eyeing India with sense of friendship is tantamount to suicide for Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said he is very much hopeful that there would end to terrorism soon. Terrorism has become a very important issue for the last 20 to 25 years. But the nation appears to be well set and united for ending terrorism. Would that such thinking had developed earlier. He said it is for the first time that the political and military leadership are on the same page. The terrorists are escaping from Pakistan and are settling outside the country and are re-organising. He said the war against terrorism would be a long war. He said the law and order in Karachi has improved after the targeted operation.
He said the aim of terrorists is to destruct the determination of the nation against terrorism but the nation is unite and will fight united.
The minister said Pakistan wants peace in the region with honour and dignity and not with weakness. We have to improve relations with neighbours. The relations with Afghanistan are improving. We are establishing political, defence and intelligence relations and making pacts. The similar could be the case with India on the basis of bilateral steps.
He said a country having ill intentions against Pakistan will definitely add fuel to the fire, but we will have to concentrate on improving the situation at home.
He said India did not fan religious extremism in Pakistan, it is rather the result of our past mistakes and wrong policies. We have to root out this mindset. He said the Ulema, instead of racing for occupation of Masajid on the basis of sects should race on the basis how many followers of which sect won more Nobel prizes.
He said the National Action Plan is being hotly pursued and the matter of Indian involvement in terrorism would be raised with India. He said terrorists are providing grounds for denuclearisation of Pakistan through their terrorist activities in the name of Islam. He claimed that Pakistan would make more and more achievements against terrorism with every passing day.
Defence analyst Imtiaz Gul said the attack on Imambargah and Masjid in Peshawar is continuation of terrorist activities and is aimed at damaging the interests of Pakistan. He said the success the Pakistan Army achieved against terrorists is commendable. The claims of the army and the government that they have wiped out terrorists are not right. The Operation Zarb-e-Azb should continue with the same zeal and force. Whosoever breaks the law should be punished. He criticised that our interior minister speaks out the technicalities, which should have been disclosed by the police or the intelligence agencies. The minister should care that certain things are not disclosed in public.
