Army to train all LEAs for security: COAS

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif on Saturday reiterated Pakistan Army’s resolve to train all law-enforcing agencies (LEAs) and build capacity to collectively work for security and law and order in the country.





Speaking at the passing-out parade of Elite Police at Elite Police Training School, Lahore, he said, “We have enhanced our training capacity and will further expand our training programme across the country,” the ISPR director general tweeted on social media.

It may be mentioned here that under the National Action Plan, the capacity building of police is underway.
The first batch trained by a team of Special Service Group (SSG) and Pakistan Army instructors passed out at Lahore Elite Police Training Centre on Saturday.

The training of Counterterrorism Force on most modern lines began at Elite Police Training School, Bedian Road, Lahore, on the instructions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on May 5, 2014.

According to Elite Police Training School, a total of 1,182 personnel are currently undergoing training.
The passing-out of the first batch comprising 421 corporals, including 16 female corporals, took place on Saturday.
The remaining trainees, comprising 425 and 336 personnel, will pass out in second and third batch, respectively, on completion of their training.

The trainees of Counterterrorism Force have been imparted specialised training by master trainers from Pak Army on most modern lines.
The nine-month training session was undertaken under the supervision of Pak Army.
A serving Lt colonel from Pak Army’s SSG was assigned by the government to run this course.
He presently heads the Elite Police Training School as its commandant.

A total of 33 trainers – five officers, eight JCOs/NCOs from SSG and 20 drill/weapon instructors from the army –imparted intensive specialised training.

Moreover, another 40 retired SSG instructors have also formed part of the training team.
The training duration included seven-month training on special operations and academics by Pak Army instructors and six-week training on intelligence gathering, investigation, law and special operation by a group of instructors from brotherly Islamic country, Turkey.
