ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Army commander has expressed regret over the killing of eight Iranian border guards, saying such incidents have entailed more security cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
“Security cooperation between Iran and Pakistan for beefing up borders is essential,” General Raheel Sharif told visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Islamabad on Thursday.
On Monday night, eight Iranian border guards were martyred by terrorists near the border with Pakistan. The militants, affiliated to the Jaish al Adal group, crossed into the country from Pakistan.
Dialogue is solution to the Yemeni crisis
General also pointed to developments in regional countries especially Iraq, Syria, and Yemen and called for more coordination in campaign against terrorism.
In the meeting Zarif also elaborated on Iran’s solution to end the conflict in Yemen.
“The solution includes immediate ceasefire, sending aid, especially food and medicine, treating wounded, establishing Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue and forming an inclusive government,” Zarif stated.
In view of the past experiences military intervention in Yemen will exacerbate the situation, the Iranian chief diplomat noted.
