Lahore: April 13, 2015. (Pervez Yousaf) 13th April, 2015: Council for Interfaith Dialogue Pakistan (CFID) observed a day of Prayer for Peace in Pakistan. In this regard a gathering of religious, intellectuals, political and social leaders of different religions was organized in a local hotel in Lahore on 6th of April 2015. The objective of this prayer gathering was to offer prayer for the eradication of day by day growing wave of terrorism, targeting killing, political tension, sectarian and religious prejudice in Pakistan. This special prayer service was jointly presided by Pir Shafaat Rasool, chairman of the council and Fr. Francis Nadeem its coordinator.
Representatives of the Muslim and Hindu communities extended Easter greetings to all the Christian community of Pakistan.
Expressing their views leaders of different religions said that this is a historical and an international occasion where leaders of different religions are gathered and celebrating the feast of resurrection of Jesus Christ and offering prayers for Peace in Pakistan and other countries of the world. They demanded from the central and all the provincial governments to take necessary measures to tackle the ongoing crucial situation throughout the country and to take steps to protect the lives and properties of the people. They appreciated the efforts of Council for Interfaith Dialogue in promoting peace and interfaith harmony through such kind of gatherings.
The participants condoled with the families of all the martyrs/deceased who lost their lives during suicidal attacks in different cities of the country and expressed solidarity with them. They enlightened candles to commemorate all the martyrs who lost their lives in suicidal attacks, firing and bomb blasts by the terrorists during the past few months in the different parts of the country including Karachi, Army Public School Peshawar, Imam Bargahs in Shikar Pur and Rawalpindi, and attacks on two Churches in Youhanabad, Lahore.
While holding the illuminated candles in their hands the participants recited prayers for the restoration of peace in Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Kenya and other war affected regions of the world. They also remembered the Christian couple Shahzad and Shama who were killed and burnt by the enraged Muslim mob in Kot Radha Kishan (Distt. Kasur) on 4th of November 2014. The prayers were led by Fr. James Channan and Syed Waqar-ul-Hassan Naqvi.
Thanking the guests and participants Fr. Francis Nadeem said it is highly imperative to spread the message of peace and interfaith harmony in every corner of the country. He said that we all are the ambassadors of peace and it is our national and moral duty to join hands together while ignoring all sorts of differences and prejudice.
Earlier, Pervez Yousaf, Secretary of CFID, presented a brief introduction of Council for Interfaith Dialogue. While talking about the objective of the programme, he said that today not only our country but also other countries of the world including Syria, Iraq, and Yemen are facing bloodshed due to attacks of different terrorist groups. So, there is a dire need to say prayers for the restoration of peace in all these countries and especially in our motherland.
The programme was hosted by Mufti Syed Ashiq Hussain and began with the recitation of Holy Quran by Allama Asghar Arif Chishti and prayer by Sunil John. The joint prayer for peace was led by Syed Waqar-ul-Hassan Naqvi.
