India helping terrorists in Pakistan, US informed

 Washington agreed to help capture or kill Fazlullah



ISLAMABAD - The Senate Defence Committee was told on Monday that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, during his last visit to the US, handed over evidence regarding India’s involvement in terrorism in Pakistan.


Defence Secretary Lt-Gen (r) Alam Khattak informed the Senate Standing Committee on Defence during an in-camera briefing on the recently held Pak-US Strategic Dialogue and visit of the chief of army staff to the US.

The committee was told that the COAS communicated to the US that India was interfering in Pakistan’s affairs.

According to the sources, the committee was also told that the US reassured Pakistan of assisting to capture or kill Mullah Fazlullah in Afghanistan and that efforts were still underway.
Khattak also said Pakistan was informed by the US that drone strikes were carried out on Fazlullah’s hideout, but he escaped.

The Senate body chairman and members appreciated the stance taken by the Ministry of Defence while handling delicate military affairs with the US.

The committee paid glowing tributes to the armed forces for their sacrifices and success of the operation Zarb-e-Azb as a result of which Pak-Afghan ties have witnessed improvement.
Both Pakistan and Afghanistan are on the same page regarding the stern action being taken against terrorists, especially after the attack on Army Public School, Peshawar, the committee was told.

The ministry told the meeting that during the recent dialogue, the government effectively highlighted Pakistan’s point of view on the matter.
Senator Mushahid Hussain stated that the national security of Pakistan is of paramount significance and unanimity of opinion exists among all the stakeholders in this regard.

Senator Ch Shujaat Hussain proposed that army public schools be named after the martyrs of APS, Peshawar.
The proposal was unanimously endorsed by the members of the committee.
The committee decided to write a letter to the Ministry of Defence for taking necessary action in this regard.
According to sources, the committee was told that the US would provide one billion dollars to Pakistan this year under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF).

The committee offered fateha for the late King Abdullah and offered condolences to the Saudi Royal Family.
Senator Mushahid, in his remarks, eulogised services of the late king and termed his death a great loss to the Muslim Ummah as he had worked with zeal and devotion for the unity of the Muslims.

 “The late king was a great friend of Pakistan and helped us in the hour of need,” he said.

The meeting was attended by senators Mushahid Hussain, Ms Sehar Kamran, Ch Shujaat Hussain, Col (r) Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and Farhatullah Babar, and other high-ranking officials of the ministries of defence and foreign affairs.
