COAS Told US about Indian Involvement in Terrorism in Pakistan

Islamabad – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif presented evidence regarding Indian involvement in terrorism in Pakistan using Afghan soil to American authorities during his US visit in November last year, Senate Defence Committee was told on Monday.




US officials assured Gen Raheel that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Mullah Fazlullah would either be arrested or killed, Defence Secretary Lt (retd) Alam Khattak briefed committee in the in-camera meeting.
US authorities told Gen Raheel that a drone attack had also been carried out in a Pak-Afghan border area on the information of presence of Fazlullah a couple of months ago, however, he escaped that attack. However, they said that American and Afghan security forces are carrying out operation to either arrest or kill the Taliban leadership.
Defence Secretary told committee that some misconceptions haunted Pak-US relations in the last few years but relations have been improving from last year. He said US has extended the Coalition Support Fund earmarked for war against terrorism and Pakistan would get $1 billion in this lieu this year.  He told that US will provide weapons and security equipment to Pakistan to cope with challenges related to national security.
Defence Secretary briefed the Senate committee that the relations with Afghanistan are also improving a high-level Afghan delegation will visit Pakistan next month.
The chairman of Senate Defence Committee Mushahid Hussain Syed and other members expressed displeasure over the absence of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif from the meeting, saying he not gives any importance to the committee.
The committee also offered Fatiha for Saudi Arabia’s late King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz at the end of meeting.
