Gen Raheel visits Sri Lankan Army Headquarters, meets military leadership

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka, visited Army Headquarters and called on Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, Lt Gen A.W.J.C De Silva on Saturday.


On arrival at Army Headquarters, General Raheel Sharif was presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Sri Lankan army, said an ISPR press release issued here.
Later, General Raheel Sharif was given detailed briefing about operational and training aspects of Sri Lankan army.
During the meeting with Sri Lankan army chief, matters of professional interest, ways and means for further enhancing bilateral defence ties with particular reference to mutually benefit from each other's experience in fighting terrorism, were discussed.
Sri Lankan Army chief praised Pakistan army for its professionalism, and successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb for bringing peace and stability in the region.
General A.W.J.C De Silva thanked General Raheel Sharif for timely and much needed support during Koslandawatta - Meeriyabedda devastating mudslide in Budhala, Srilanka last year.
The COAS also called on Vice Admiral SAMJ Perera, Commander Sri Lanka Navy at Naval Headquarters on matters of mutual interest.
