Pakistan Army Act: political parties must not politicise extension: Nisar

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that political parties need not to politicise extension of Pakistan Army Act (amendment) ordinance, 2015, as it is the part of the National Action Plan (NAP) devised to counter terrorism after consensus of all political parties. 


The Interior Minister while talking to media persons after inauguration of Command and control centre of Safe City project and SMS alert service of Passport and Immigration Directorate, said that the army act ordinance does not only belongs to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) as it is part of NAP. "The army act ordinance is not new but extension of an earlier approved ordinance", he said. He said that some parties are politicising the extension of army act ordinance, which was approved after consensuses of all political parities. 

About Sindh Rangers, he said that Sindh Rangers have played a vital role for the last one year. "Rangers are rendering valuable service for bringing peace in Karachi and they are now considered symbol confidence and security", he said. He said that if anyone has reservations about Rangers he should move the apex committee Sindh. 

He said that due to concrete efforts of Sindh Rangers citizens of Karachi now consider themselves safe. "Director General Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar had given some recommendation to the apex committee Sindh and the provincial government needs to implement it", he said. To a question, he said that the law and order situation in Balochistan has also improved significantly due the measures taken by the provincial government. He said action will be taken against those who carry weapons, but at first hand the government prefers to have dialogue with all elements to bring peace. 

He said that the government is determined to bring the killers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq to justice and extend co-operation to British police to complete investigation in the case. Earlier, Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) briefed Interior Minister about Safe City Project. The NADRA chairman said that under the Safe City project 1700 surveillance cameras would be installed in various parts of the city and the project would be completed till October. 

The minister said that the main objective of the project is to provide technological support to our institutions. The sensitive date including number plate of vehicles would be stored in Command and control center therefore serious efforts should be made to protect it, he said. 

He directed IGP Islamabad to depute 200 personnel of Islamabad police at the command and control centre and provide basic facilities. Director General (DG) Immigration and Passport (I&P) briefed the Interior Minister about the passport SMS alert service. He said that over 16,000 people daily visits different passport offices and these services will facilitate them to get know-how about the status of their passport. Interior minister and DG passport pressed the button of SMS service, 9000 passport applicants received message to get their passport.
