Sindh Apex Committee Decides to Expand Scope of Karachi Operation

Karachi — The Apex Committee of Sindh has decided to take stringent action against the criminal elements and outlawed outfits in Karachi without any discrimination.



The special meeting of apex committee was held at Corps headquarters here on Thursday, a day after unidentified gunmen shot dead 45 people belonging to Ismaili community in a bus attack near Safora Chowk.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif chaired the meeting, which was attended by Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General RIzwan Akhtar, Director General Military Intelligence, Corps Commander Karachi Lt General Naveed Mukhtar, Director-General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Home Secretary Mukhtar Sumroo and Inspector-General Sindh Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali.
The participants of meeting reviewed overall security situation in Karachi, Safora massacre, National Action Plan and Karachi operation.
The meeting decided to extend the scope of search operations to suburban areas of Karachi and to make the process of checking on exit and entry points of city more effective.
The apex committee also expressed resolve that indiscriminate action will be taken against the criminal elements irrespective of their political, linguistic, sectarian and religious affiliations.
The meeting agreed to take effective measures to make the process of appointments of law-enforcing officials in Sindh transparent and merit-based for long term sustainability of targeted operation against miscreants.
The session also agreed to enhance cooperation between the institutions and to make effective intelligence-based operations. A sub intelligence committee would be also formed up for this
The meeting also decided that all the financing channels of terrorists will be traced and weeded out.
The participants also agreed to hold the session of apex committee on weekly basis.
On the occasion, Army Chief expressed concern over Safora massacre and emphasized on the need of effective measures to prevent such incidents.
He said that Pakistan Army will not hesitate from rendering any sacrifice to protect the people and its borders. He said the terrorists and their abettors will not be tolerated at any cost.
