Hostile agencies out to destabilise Pakistan: COAS

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday called for proactive and coordinated role of intelligence agencies to counter the moves of hostile agencies, which were out to destabilise Pakistan.




He expressed these views during his visit to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarter here on Friday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.General Raheel Sharif said that most of the achievements of intelligence agencies went unnoticed but their accomplishments for defence of the country were phenomenal and deserved due recognition and acknowledgement.

Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar briefed the COAS on internal and external security situation of the country and counterterrorism operations.

When briefed on pre-empting a number of terrorist acts and successful Intelligence Battlefield Operations (IBOs), the chief of the army staff appreciated the ISI’s role in preventing numerous terrorist bids.

He emphasised the need for more proactive and coordinated role of intelligence agencies for an effective counterterrorism campaign and to counter hostile agencies’ moves to destabilise Pakistan.

He also stressed the need for further coordinating and synergising combined civil-military intelligence efforts at national level by providing all the agencies requisite support and ever-developing modern intelligence techniques.
