Feldman lauds Pak sacrifices in war against terror

ISLAMABAD - US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Daniel Feldman who is currently visiting Pakistan on Tuesday lauded the sacrifices Pakistani nation and its security forces had rendered in the war against terror.





Daniel Feldman on Tuesday held separate meetings with Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and discussed matters of common interest.
Talking to the visiting US dignitary, Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan-US cooperation is moving in the positive direction especially in defence, economy and energy sectors. 
The Adviser underscored the comprehensive measures taken by Pakistan to counter terrorism and extremism. 
He also briefed the US envoy about the improvement in Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan and the current status of relations with India. 
Ambassador Daniel Feldman expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the efforts to root out terrorism and extremism and the success achieved so far. 
Daniel Feldman also called on Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. 
During the meeting issue of mutual interest and regional security situation came under discussion.
Meanwhile, Daniel Feldman, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan on Tuesday said that the successful 7th IMF review is the reflection of the positive achievements Pakistan made in stabilizing the economy. 
He made these remarks during a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. 
US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard G Olson also accompanied Feldman on the occasion. 
Daniel Feldman felicitated Finance Minister on the successful 7th IMF review for which talks were recently held in Dubai. 
He said it was reflective of the positive achievements Pakistan had made in stabilizing the economy. 
He also congratulated him on the recent fruitful visit to Afghanistan and welcomed continued interaction between the neighbourly countries which was conducive to augmenting overall relations.
The Finance Minister briefed Feldman about implementations status on various Pak-Afghan economic projects. 
He said that Pakistan was keen on projects that facilitated regional connectivity and specially referred to the CASA-1000 which he said would help alleviate Pakistan’s energy shortage problem besides promoting regional connectivity.
He said that Pakistan was moving ahead on transit trade arrangement with Afghanistan and welcomed measures to enhance bilateral trade.
Ishaq Dar apprised Feldman about the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb and said that action against all the terrorists was being carried out without exception. 
He also briefed Feldman about the steps Pakistan was taking to counter money laundering and curb terrorist financing. 
He shared with the US Af-Pak Representative, the financial difficulties Pakistan had to face due to large number of TDPs. 
He said that the international community had an obligation to support Pakistan in the rehabilitation of the TDPs.
The Finance Minister on this occasion appreciated the message of condolence and solidarity expressed by US Secretary of State John Kerry on the recent terrorist attack on a bus in Karachi, killing innocent people.
The Minister said that Pakistan was encouraged by the US commitment to support efforts aimed at enlarging and strengthening Pakistan’s economy particularly its energy sector and expressed Pakistan’s desire to expand cooperation with the US in the field of renewable energy sector and completion of Diamer Bhasha Dam project. 
Daniel Feldman thanked the Finance Minister for the meeting and wished him all the success in efforts for further strengthening Pakistan’s economy.
