Chinese President Xi Jinping's two-day state visit to Pakistan, which starts tomorrow, will be his first trip to the South Asian country since he assumed the presidency in 2013.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong says China and Pakistan have been all-weather friends and have enjoyed a strong relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1951.
"President Xi's state visit to Pakistan is designed to make strategic and long-term plans for the future of China-Pakistan relations, elevating the strategic partnership between the two countries, promoting a batch of cooperation projects in various fields, deepening the traditional friendship between the people of the two countries and further building a community of shared interests between the two countries."
During Xi Jinping's visit, China and Pakistan are expected to sign deals on a wide range of issues, from energy and infrastructure to education and culture.
Among the issues is the China- Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which ambassador Sun describes as an important part of the "Belt and Road" initiatives.
He says the project constitutes a strategic framework for the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
"Both China and Pakistan agree to build a 'One plus Four' cooperation pattern, with the China-Pakistan economic corridor as the one keel, and energy, transport infrastructure construction, Gwadar Port construction and industrial park construction as the four grips."
After his trip to Pakistan, Xi Jinping will travel to Indonesia to attend the Asian-African Summit and activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference.
