Army chief for ‘total self-reliance’ in defense production

RAWALPINDI: Appreciating the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) for meeting full requirement of arms and ammunition in Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday emphasized the need for technological upgradation and maximum indigenisation to attain total self reliance in the field of defense production.



According a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Gen Raheel had a detailed visit of the manufacturing facilities in Wah.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was given detailed briefing by Chairman POF about performance of their chain of factories and future expansion plans till 2020.
The envisaged modernisation and increase in the production capacity will enhance standard of manufacturing and save foreign exchange, the COAS was told.
Addressing the management and staff of the POF later, the army chief said that the POF was the premier defense industry of Pakistan, making invaluable contributions to sustain combat worthiness of the country’s armed Forces.
He specially appreciated the POF efforts to meet total requirement of arms and ammunition for ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists in tribal areas of the country bordering Afghanistan.
