The Army today said it had foiled an attempt by three or four persons from across the border in Pakistan to infiltrate into Indian territory in the Poonch sector of Jammu & Kashmir.
An Army spokesman said that, about 1045 hours, three or four persons were observed crossing the line of control in the area from the Pakistan side.
When these persons were well within the Indian territory, Indian troops deployed in the area opened fire on them.
"Simultaneously, Pakistani post located immediately across this area opened up with heavy unprovoked firing on the Indian troops. During the ensuing fire fight, the persons trying to cross the line of control were observed running back towards Pakistan side," the spokesperson added.
