PESHAWAR - Security forces on Monday arrested one of the main attackers of the Peshawar Army Public School (APS).
The ISPR, media wing of Pakistan Army, said that terrorist Taj Muhammad alias Rizwan was arrested by the security forces in an intelligence-based operation.
Taj Muhammad was the commander of the second group which attacked APS on December 16 last, killing over 150 people including 133 students.
The other terrorist group was being led by Atique-ur-Rehman alias Usman who has already been apprehended by the security forces.
Taj Muhammad, 27, is the resident of Sipah, Koi Chowk, Bara, Khyber Agency.
He had been disguised as an IDP in village Pawakai at Peshawar.
According to the ISPR, Taj Muhammad has confessed to his affiliation with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan since 2008 and his involvement in many other terrorist activities in North Waziristan and around Peshawar.
On December 16 last, terrorists carried out one of the most horrific attacks in the history of Pakistan by attacking Army Public School (APS) and killed over 150 people, mostly children.
Following the attack, government and political parties expressed a renewed resolve to fight terrorism in the country.
The prime minister also lifted the moratorium on the death penalty in terrorism cases.
Moreover, a day before, the law-enforcement agencies also apprehended a terrorist carrying head money of Rs 500,000.
The terrorist, Basir, was apprehended in Doaba area in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Basir is a suicide jacket expert and master in making remote-controlled landmines.
The law enforcers, upon receiving information, besieged the house of Basir and asked him to surrender.
The terrorist, in a bid to flee, ran towards the nearby mountains.
However, the troops overpowered him after a brief chase.
