Operations underway to purge Bajaur, NWA of terrorists: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa Thursday said effective military operations were underway in Bajaur and North Waziristan agencies to purge those areas of terrorists.
Addressing a think-tank of Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in the United Kingdom, he said Pakistan Army killed over 2000 terrorists in NWA, while its 200 soldiers embraced martyrdom in the operation Zarb-e-Azb and 800 sustained injuries, PTV reported.



He said Pakistan Army rendered great sacrifices to flush out terrorists, besides it cleared Swat of the banned outfit Tehreek- i-Taliban. The army was confident to win the war against terrorism, he added
The DG ISPR said the United Nations has acknowledged the achievements of Pakistan Army against terrorists in the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
He expressed the resolve to ensure writ of the state in Bajaur and North Waziristan by completely wiping out terrorists from there.
He said Chief of the Army Staff has clearly directed to carry out operation against terrorists without any discrimination.
Negotiations were held with Taliban several times for achieving peace in the country but they carried out subversive activities in different parts of the country, making the North Waziristan Agency their center, he added.
Bajwa said the attack on Karachi Airport was the turning point after which the Pakistan Army launched the operation against terrorists, adding that no one would be allowed to use Pakistani soil against any country.
He said there was a 3,000 kilometer long border with India and it was committing border violations time and again, attempting to divert Pakistan's attention from war against terrorism.
